Lara stood in the center of the practice room, taking a moment to catch her breath. The hilt of her sword felt warm in her palm. So far, It was mid-morning. Pure, glowing sunlight streamed through the rooms' eastward-facing windows, creating patches of square light on the stone floor and glinting in the rack of weapons which lined the opposite wall. Birdsong echoed faintly from the garden-world outside.
Apart from Lara, this particular training room was empty. Keybladers practiced in another part of the castle, and her Master had simply shown her what to work on, made sure she understood the new set of strokes, and left for a mission off-world. Well, why not? He didn't need to hang around. By the time the Master got back, Lara would be able to do this set in her sleep. At least... that was the plan... Pushing a lock of curly red hair out of her eyes, the young woman resumed practicing. Carefully, slowly, the blade cut through the air, flashing in the patches of sunlight. This was like learning steps to a dance. You start at a snails' pace at first, gradually building up confidence. Deep in concentration, Lara swung her sword again and again, picking up speed, mindful of her fighting form and footwork. She was so focused on what she was doing, the arrival of a visitor went completely overlooked.

That morning Trinity had decided it was time for her to head toward the training grounds, see the legendary training grounds of the legendary keybladers. Her friend had invited her there, maybe the two could talk? Even better, maybe she would even teach her the absolute basics to sword fighting, she felt great happiness and butterflies at what could happen. Quickly she walked with grace toward the grounds, reaching them she looked around the various apprentices in practice, till she saw the only curly red hair that stucked out in comparison. She approached closer, not too close to be in the way.
Once Trinity felt Lara was done doing her rounds, she walked out clapping, a large smile on her face. "You are amazing! Such pretty grace, almost like you were dancing" she gave a small dance almost as if to imitate the girl but slightly lost balance tripping over her own feet. Lucky for her she caught herself instead of embarrassing herself in front of anyone watching. Her cheeks turned slightly red at how she probably looked like a princess, a failure.

Lara finished her set and paused, finally happy with her own progress. Suddenly, the sound of clapping broke the morning stillness. Who could that be? Turning to face the noise, Lara broke into a smile. Making her way across the training ground, her new friend Trinity clapped and smiled, apparently pretty excited. "You are amazing! Such pretty grace, almost like you were dancing."
The little dance which followed didn't end as planned: Lara's mouth twitched when the princess almost tumbled over. Trinity managed to stay on her feet with a little effort, a faint blush on her face. Probably best not to mention it.
Sheathing her sword, Lara greeted her friend with a laugh, "Thank you. It wasn't really amazing, but, I'm making some progress." Shraaaahh. Metal clicked against metal as Lara slipped her sword into its' sheath. In the sunlight, her mass of red and orange curls glowed like a live ember. "It feels like a dance sometimes. My grandmother taught me a few country dances when I was little... every once in a while training reminds me of that." Then a thought occurred to her.
"You've never held a sword, have you?" Lara's face brightened, her eyes twinkling over a wide grin. "What do you think of me giving you a quick lesson? Just the basics."

Lara slid the sword back into its sheath making metal click to metal sound. Trinity felt like jumping with joy at the attention, at this area, at just all of it! Though as a Princess she tried to hide all her excitement away, which was hard considering how high it was.
Lara explained that she knew a few country dances and that the training actually reminded her of sword fighting, Trinity wondered if ball dancing would come in handy for that. While it was rather simple it held elegance about it, but she knew nothing about sword fighting so maybe more complex than that?
The best thing then happened while Trinity was lost in thought, lara had offered to teach her the basics. As soon as the words escaped her mouth Trinity quickly flashed from daydreaming to reality, any excitement she hid was certainly showing now. "Really? But I-I am a young lady princess whose suppose to have lady manners." As soon as the words escaped her mouth she regretted saying them, what if Lara didn't want to teach her now? What if this was somehow breach on the whole ambassador deal? No, no it was not she had to know their customs, that was how ambassadors worked. She had read tons of books about it before taking action toward the king. "I haven't even held a sword before."

No doubt about it. Trinity was excited. "Really? But I-I am a young lady princess whose supposed to have lady manners." Oh pooh. Lara didn't give two hoots about "lady manners" if that meant a girl couldn't learn how to use a sword. Crossing her arms, Lara started thinking about which sword would be best for Trinity to start with... "I haven't even held a sword before."
"Well, we can fix that!" Lara replied, cheerfully. Waving for Trinity to follow her, she made her way to one of the weapon racks. "And anyway, who cares if they think it's unlady-like? Sword-fighting is a practical, venerated skill. Besides the fact that it's something straight out of an old myth." Turning on her heel, Lara grinned at the princess, walking backwards. "You never know when you might have to defend yourself. Alright. The first thing we must do, is find a sword you can wield." Stopping just before she ran into weapons hung in neat rows, Lara drew her own blade and exhibited it, holding in horizontally with the flat of the sword on her fingers and one hand on the hilt. "Different fighters use swords of different weights. The first thing you need to do, is find a blade that is light enough for you to use. Go ahead." Lara gestured toward the polished weapons, smiling from ear to ear. "Try one out. The edges are dulled, but still handle it with care. Just as if it were sharp."

Trinity felt her heart pound at how easily Lara slammed all doubts down the dream, how eager she seemed to teach this young princess. She began to walk away, waving for Trinity to follow her. Quickly Trinity did just that, eventually reaching a weapons rack.
The young woman began to explain how important sword-fighting was, bringing a slight pang to Trinity's gut. She had read tons of stories, and never considered how some stories held might women warriors, there were so few, she just never considered she would maybe get to live it. Lost in thought she didn't notice lara turning on Trinity then began walking backwards still making explanation.
Trinity quickly paid attention to every detail, this was extremely important, it will be used when getting to the actual fighting. Yes, she must know all this like those dinner parties all those rules. She must find the right blade, the right blade. Trinity watched closely as lara showed off her own blade, such elegance in design while little she knew about blades, everything was impressive. She could not help but "ooh" and "ahh" at Lara's and all the others.
Looking at all the blades she picked up an axe, consequently a very very heavy axe, as soon as the support was not holding it she doubled over almost dropping it to the ground. Struggling she put the axe back on the shelf, every thought decided to go with something much much smaller. She then noticed a small simple sword, she went over to pick it up, excitement surged through her at how much lighter it was in comparison. The blade itself was bit heavy, she never considered how heavy blades were, how did the knights handle them and armor? She would never be able to understand, maybe that was why the did nothing but train?
She tempted to swing the sword, her whole body form completely off, this causing her to lose balance easily. After almost falling she turned to Lara and looked up with glee in her eyes, "I want this one."

lara grinned when trinity reached for the battle ax. she had done the same thing when she first came here - went for the most impressive sword she could see. as the long-haired girl heaved the axe back onto the weapon rack, lara watched her thoughtfully. there was more to trinity than her sweet demeanor and delicate manners: the shy, polite princess had more spunk than the royals back home probably gave her credit for.
"i want this one." lara examined the sword trinity selected, chewing her lip. better. still a little heavy, but it could work for trinity. "that one might work. okay. give it a try, and if it doesn't feel right, we'll find you a lighter one." it might dampen trinity's enthusiasm (her eyes lit up when she tried to swing the blade she picked), but hey. starting out with the right blade, the right form, the right balance, was important.
"alright." lara stood with her feet apart in a firm stance, one hand on her hip, sword lowered. taking on a more serious expression, lara looked trinity in the eye. this was something important. something she cared about, strained for, grappled with. as exhilarating as it could be, swordsmanship was serious business.
"the first thing you need to learn is your stance. you want to stand like this." lara demonstrated the proper starting stance, watching to see how trinity imitated her. "don't lock your wrists or your knees... if you feel like you can't hold up your sword without putting a lot of tension on your wrists, we'll look for another one."

She watched closely as Lara began explaining and showing her the correct stance. Soon after Trinity attempted the same but found it a little hard, and felt a bit clumsier due to not getting much outside fun. She tried again, it was slightly better but still a bit off balance. After several times she eventually had it right, though held no earthly idea how to move to keep it.
On top of that the sword was hurting her wrist, something she quickly had to fix. Something she was to shy and insecure to try and fix, what if she looked like a an idiot for picking this sword? She had chosen it, surely she could wield it, she just needed to be stronger. She was not weak, and she was not going to admit that she was. If only someone would notice the pain in her eyes, the clumsiness of her wrists, and the fact this caused her to lose main focus on balance.

watching with her arms crossed, lara nodded as trinity practiced, improving bit by bit. "Good. No... you want to hold it like this... That's much better." as the young princess focused on the work, obviously putting a lot of effort into it, lara considered the way she handled the sword itself. the blade was too heavy. you could tell by the tension and bend in trinitys' wrists. lara bit her lip. trinity probably wouldn't want to give up the sword she chose. maybe it would embarrass her. it would probably disappoint her. but you just couldn't keep going when you weren't on the right track: you couldn't be the best you could be, and make the progress you wanted to, unless you used the correct blade.
frankly, but not unkindly, lara stated that the blade was a little too heavy. "hang on, i'll get another one." she goes to the weapons rack, picks out a lighter blade with an engraved hilt. hands it to trinity, "try this and see if it's better." eyeing the lighter sword, lara said, "you know, on my first day of training I went straight for the heaviest sword i could find. the Master had to move me down to a much lighter blade. made me madder than i'd been in... well. days."

Finally Lara spoke up telling her to wait a moment before attempting the stance again. This confused Trinity, who still was being stubborn as to get rid of the blade, but secretly deep down was relieved that Lara had actually said something.
A few moments later Lara came back with another blade, one she asked Trinity to try. The blade felt ten times better. What was turning to frustration, instantly turned into a smile of happiness. "Wow this is so light!" Soon after Lara told her a story about her own experience, this made the little princess feel a bit better. So she was not just messing up? It was normal? Her royal blood was not just preventing her from improving, it was a normal process.
Again she tried the steps, she fell at first from sudden weight change, however soon after the stances became much better. She continued this perfecting it little by little, soon she would be ready onto next step, soon she might be able to fight too.

"Wow this is so light!"
Lara guided Trinity through her beginning stance, moving forward to a few simple steps. It took the princess a minute to get used to the new blade (she fell down at one point), but soon she was markedly improved. The change in blade made a noteworthy difference in Trinity's performance, and Lara was pleased to see that her friend wasn't one of those people who insisted on getting their way, no matter what.
Nodding approvingly as the princess worked, Lara offered a few pointers, then walked over to the weapons rack once again. This time, she selected a blade for herself. Jogging back to Trinity, Lara assumed the beginning stance. "Alright. I'm going to show you a set of the most basic sword strokes. They're the... " She searched for an analogy. Something that didn't reference thievery. "They're the building-stones of a fight. Most of your moves will be a combination of these." Raising her training blade, Lara slowly demonstrated the movements.

"the building building-stones of a fight"
Those words rang out to Trinity with such perfection that of a princess in her own world... As she watched Lara show the next bit of basic combat moves, she could not help but think Lara as the princess of swords... Queen of her own graceful dance leading army to battle. Quickly feeling like she needed to be man at arms, Trinity attempted the moves. She had taken a few times, but they seemed bit easier than the whole balance thing. She will gladly admit there were several mistakes, but that's learning. When training was all up and finished, Trinity gave a slight bow of thanks. "Thank you for teaching me the basics, will we be able to meet again? Possibly practice together?" how little she knew, how much her arms would hurt just from that basic practice.
//Can we end the thread here? So that we can focus on our other threads? Then pick up a new thread with them maybe play swordfighting in the forest or something? with another character to-interrupt their practice? After all the other threads... and drama.//
