LARA BUCHANAN
|
Appearance |
Lara is a little below average height. She's fast and strong. She has remarkable control over her movements and exceptional balance. Good at climbing, sneaking, and other athletic things generally associated with successful thievery. |
Personality |
Lara has a "never say die" attitude. She's cheerful, outspoken, and proud. Her pride, self-confidence, and spunk go hand in hand with a rebellious spirit. She doesn't like to be held back. She could stand to learn some gentleness and patience. Though she doesn't have the explosive temper you might associate with fiery red hair, she does get angry fairly easily. Fortunately, that anger doesn't last too long (unless you've hurt someone she cares about). Lara staunchly defends and supports her friends and is always willing to give people a second chance. Generally, Lara's hardworking, but she'll shirk "less important" tasks if she really doesn't feel like doing them. Doesn't want to be babied and won't "baby" anybody else, but her "don't coddle them" attitude sometimes turns into insensitivity. She can be stubborn, but not completely unreasonable. Sometimes her curiosity and failure to think ahead can cause problems: she prefers to act in the spur of the moment. Smart. Exuberant. Generous. Few things irk her more than a complainer. Cares about how her friends are doing. She doesn't put much stock in possessions and knows how to get by on just a little. Lara wants to have a reason for doing things (even if it's just "because it's fun"). She's undisciplined, yet she trains hard. |
History |
Lara's parents had a significant impact in her life, largely because they were absent from it. Though Lara doesn't really think about it from day to day, and tells herself that it doesn't bother her (she never knew them anyway), deep down she wonders what happened to them and why they left her in a basket on her grandmother's doorstep. Some of the Lara's first memories are of living as a refugee in Traverse Town. Despite her shadowy past, Lara grew up a curious and happy child. She and her grandmother lived simply and peacefully, though the little girl was a bit of a handfull (one of her first words being "won't!"). When Lara began to show an ability to use plant magic (making them grow or shrivel or move at will), her grandmother trained her as best she could. A month after Lara's tenth birthday, her grandmother passed away. City authorities tried to send Lara to an orphanage, but after one look at the gloomy stone building, Lara decided she would rather run away than live in a place like that. So that's exactly what she did. The next few days were lonely and hard. One evening, hungry and desperate, Lara swiped some apples from a booth in a crowded market square. The only person who noticed was a woman, a member of a band of thieves who lived in the city. Catching up to Lara, the woman offered to take her in: cautiously, the girl agreed. Soon she was an apprentice in a band of Robin-hood-esque thieves. Four years of her life were spent in the thieves' gang. Lara learned to pick locks, scale walls, think on her feet and disappear in a crowd. Deep down, Lara knew that what they did was wrong: but she still found this new life exhilarating. It was a welcome distraction from the grief of her grandmother's death, and an escape from the desperation she saw among destitute refugees. When she was fourteen, Lara blew a job stealing from a Keyblade master. She swiped the Keyblader's bag, which should have been simple. Done it a thousand times. Unfortunately (or, fortunately) for Lara, the Keyblader noticed and took off after her. After a prolonged chase, Lara was caught. Instead of turning her in, to her surprise, the Keyblade master offered her a way out of the gang. If she would leave her life of thievery behind, he would find someone to train her in her magical abilities to help in the fight against the Heartless. The lure of this new adventure drew her in. But more than that, the chance to redeem herself and work toward something good drove her to accept: Lara knew that her grandmother would have been gravely disappointed with the last four years of her life, and her sense of guilt and shame grew with each passing year. Now, Lara lives in the Land of Departure, practicing her magical skills and training for battle against the Organization and the Heartless. |
