BREAK ME i'm still fighting for peace Sleeping wasn't in the cards tonight. Too many nightmares and twisted memories. Not even the ridiculously comfy bed he'd been sleeping in could bring him any comfort. All it did was deliver Carmen to his nightmares faster.
The bell on the door jingled as he entered the little coffee shop. The teen went a ways out of his way to get caffeine, but he genuinely liked Traverse Town more than where he was staying. The atmosphere was less bland. And the people were more interesting. A lot of them were from all over. He had a tiny bit of hope that maybe he'd run into someone from his past. Or even someone like himself, if he hung out around here enough.
Once inside everyone seemed awkwardly tense. What's wrong with these people? Why are they looking at me like that? I don't... They seemed vaguely concerned, and Carmen had no idea why until the waitress wasn't sure whether or not she should refer to him as a guy or a girl. His mask! It must be unusual to wear one out here 364 days a year. “Oops, sorry!”He quickly took it off before ordering. Setting it down on the table. Keeping a protective hand over it. That seemed to put everyone at ease, including himself. He ordered the strangest sounding coffee drink on the menu. He wasn't even sure what language it was in, but it looked ridiculously sweet, so why the hell not? Carmen glanced around the room curiously as he waited. Everyone seemed to be rather content with the world. That was, until the bells on the door jingled again. The tension was back again, in fact, one of the waitresses looked rather upset. Wonder why...
He didn't glance over at the newcomer. He didn't even necessarily care, he was too focused on staying awake. Noah Thorne, 303, i ain't the best at starters but heyyy

Spooky Scary Skeletons
Noah sighs as he enters the cafe. Vinny wanted him to get him another stupid coffee, and he always wanted it from this shop. They didn't like it as much as him, and he kept telling Vin that. But he didn't care, as well he payed them enough they couldn't kick me out. Of course he wished they would, can Vin get his own damned coffee. It was strange, the air in the room was already at least a little high when he walked in. Did they seem him coming? Its not like they could guess, he was almost always sent out for the coffee at different times. Like Vin was scared of someone going after me or something. But it was a bit of fun, it always meant that him coming here was a surprise for the others in the room. But it almost seemed like that was not the case here. Noah just shrugs it away as he steps up behind the guy in line. He hadn't turned when he walked in, so maybe Noah could get a good scare out of him. Caressing his ring for a moment like he normally did before trying something fun with his illusions he breathes evenly. But before he does anything he notices a gas mask on the counter right next to him. He new there was a few people who liked to wear those to scare people back home, his uncle Chris was one of them. Used to also set it up so that he could bellow smoke out of it to scare more easily. it was neat. Instead of a more grand trick like he was thinking, he simply summoned a centipede to writhe down his arm so that he could play with the illusion in his hand. He heard the gasp from some of the people in the cafe. That always brought a nice smile to his face. Then with the critter in hand he reaches forward and taps the guys shoulder, letting a few of his illusions fall down on his shoulder. "Nice mask" Noah then says. testes this box will expand as u type

BREAK ME i'm still fighting for peace Waiting was annoying, especially when people seemed to be getting worked up over the guy standing behind him. He was determined not to turn around, half scared that he himself might turn into a gawking idiot. It was unlikely, though. He was used to seeing weird people...Things?
There was a familiar sound too, it sounded like a bug of some sort, crawling. It was faint. Maybe this place had a roach problem..No that wasn't a roach, he knew that sound. Maybe Carmen was imagining it, it wouldn't be the first time. He hallucinated a crap ton in the dark... But it wasn't dark in here at all. Maybe he'd gone bonkers. He played with a strand of his hair, curling it between his fingers. That's when he tapped on his shoulder.
Nice Mask.
He was about to turn and thank him when he noticed them. The centipedes. The painful ones, the nasty crawly, little monsters that slither through the dirt on the prison floor. They were aggressive little things. His eyes widened and he about jumped out of his skin. Instead of knocking them off with his hand he started trying to get them away without touching them. Jumping and swatting at them with his gasmask. He really didn't need a bite from one of these things tonight.
“EW EW EW. NOT AGAIN YOU LITTLE F*CKERS.”
Flustered, Carmen spun around to face Noah. His mask..And the bugs....Noah wasn't familiar in the least bit, however, it was so obvious to the teenager where this guy was from. His expression turned from being frustrated to look of absolute amazement.
“YOU. YOUR FACE. OH MY GOD.”
Coherent sentences aren't really a thing when his heart was beating as fast as it was. He almost completely forgot about the centipede illusion.

| At first Noah starts to frown, he was getting the kind of reaction that he was wanting but there was something else that was bugging him. He wasn't sure what it was. As the dude whipped around he shouted not again! thats odd. But not what was getting at his mind. It was something that had just happened what was it.
Noah takes a deep breath about to as the guy a question when it hits him. He smells.... Like carmel! He remembered when he had first met Teri she was surprised that he smelled like Candy Corn. In Halloween Town its a really common thing. Even after you leave most people keep the smell for the rest of there lives.
A smile crawls its way across Noah's face, as the illusions disappear. He looks at him his eyes wide. Under his breath you can here him slowly singing. "Boys and girls of every age, wouldnt you like to see something strange. Come with us and you will see." His voice stops at the last bit, hoping more then ever that this other person understands.

BREAK ME i'm still fighting for peace That song... Those lyrics. So Carmen's hunch was right! If the mask wasn't enough to make it obvious that this man was from home, the song sure did. Of course this guy would do something creepy like the whole centipede trick. Thankfully the illusions were gone. Even though he knew now they were pretty harmless, Carmen still wasn't really okay with them. The memories that came with giant centipedes weren't ones he wanted to surface. Especially in public.
“This our town of Halloween~!”
Carmen sang a little bit too loudly. Blame the enthusiasm. It had been a few months since he'd seen anyone from his home world. And even longer since he had been there. Noah made his night. There was really no better way to put it. Even though they were complete strangers, Carmen felt less alone. Less out of place. His wide eyed surprised faded to more of a happy smile.
The waitress at the counter seemed almost entirely done with the world at this point. Carmen felt for her a little. Not being used to people who like them must make it hard. Though, the teenager was nothing like Noah in the scare factor. He was never strong in that area. At all. That was Chris's area of expertise. He could scare the skin off anyone. Including Carmen. Of course the girl didn't know that. All she knew was that she now had two masked freaks in her vicinity.
Was he still alive? His poor brother... Of course he was, he was the stronger out of the two. He could get through anything. Carmen had the faith in him...Even more faith than he had in his absent father at this point.
Carmen quickly paid for his drink and stepped to the side with it, so Noah could go about his business. However, he was still going to speak with him. Why wouldn't he?
“It'd been so long since I've run into someone from home I didn't expect I ever would again.”
The boy admitted with a bit of a sad laugh. He hooked his mask to his belt before taking a sip out of his coffee. Extremely sweet, and rich. Tasted like home. Noah Thorne, 334, sorry if it's a bit off, i'm a bit drugged to put it lightly

| Noah was more happy then anyone could imagine. He had found a fellow Halloween Town resident! He was so happy to see this person that there where Centipede's falling out of his hair and his coat. Everyone around was uneasy before, now have of the cafe was out the door. Quickly trying to get away from the him, and to a lesser degree this other person. Who to be honest, seemed to have but a lackluster ability to scare. He even willingly took off his mask to make everyone more at ease. Noah would never do that, it was against his code of sorts.
Scaring was in his blood and it there was anyone that couldn't handle it they could deal. He was not going to change to make some scaredy happier. He had always wanted to be a trick of treeter. But sadly he had never gotten the chance too.
As Noah walks up to the counter, the women on the other side slams down Vinny's coffee and storms to the back. Vin might have to find a new place to get coffee at this rate.
Looking over to this other person, he cracks his fingers in the way that he does. Most of the Centipede's are gone at this point. "7 Month's." Noah shakes his head in amazement. "I thought I was alone."

| 7 months.
That's how long he'd been outside of Halloween Town? That was practically as long as Carmen. No doubt their reasons for leaving were completely different. He was curious as to why Noah left. As good as he seemed to be at scaring, he shouldn't have had any issues fitting in. It was doubtful he went on a family search as well...After all it wasn't really something people did often. Did something happen to his home world?
I thought I was alone.
Carmen smiled rather solemnly. He'd felt the same, not as long probably. At least in the maze he knew there were more like him. His own flesh and blood, lost in there as well. But out here, knowing no one but Daxior and whoever he knew, he was alone in that respect. He took a small sip out of his beverage before turning his attention back to Noah.
“It's been the same for me... It gets pretty sad really, having no one around that appreciates a good mask... Why'd you leave?”
There was a growing worry in his chest. Noah seemed a bit too amazed for him to have run away or something. Right? Sure it was kind of farther off, but in almost a year you were bound to run into at least the mention of another halloween town goer? Unless something happened to the world itself. Oh, maker, don't let it be anything too horrible. His mother was still there after all.
She was all he had left in a sense. The only member of his family he was 99% positive on being alive and well. At least, until this moment. After seeing the prison himself, after going through what he went through his hopes for ever seeing his father again dropped dramatically. And his brother, maker, his brother...If Carmen picked the “right” door, could he have even still been alive?
Benny never ever gave Carmen an answer on either of them. He always teased that he knew. “We're not too far away from your daddy now, it's a shame that you won't be able to see him.” ”You think what's happening to you is so horrible? You should see your brother...I'm a f*cking dream compared to what he was up against.” That last part he had heard so many times. Usually when Carmen started to break. He could only hold out for so long before the pain started to get to him. Till his mind went blank, as the tears started flowing. The disembodied screams that turned out to be his own echoing in his ears.
He took another quick drink, focusing on the flavor of the coffee and all the other ingredients mixed in. Trying to kick the memories to the back of his mind again.
“...I mean, last time I was there, everything was same as usual...? And if anyone fit in there, I would think you would...I mean those centipedes. Those are disgusting.”
He said with a rather impressed tone of voice. As much as he hated even the illusions of them, it was pretty neat. He could respect a good scare. Also Noah's mask was pretty epic.
"In all the right ways, of course..."

| Noah frowns looking lost in thought for a moment, he waits until this new friend of his says all that he is going to before he even thinks of responding. Grabbing the finished coffee, he walks over and sits down at one of the tables motioning for the other to follow. Noah really wasn't always one for talking. Some people liked to say it was a good thing, others just got pissed at him thinking he was empty in the head or something. His aunt used to tease him, tap him on the head, ask who was home.
It didnt bother him, he liked the quite. Weather for scaring or just relaxing. With a slight sigh he cracks his fingers. "I wandered off you could say." Noah runs his finger over the rim of the lip, his black nails glinting slightly. The coffee was going to get cold wasn't it if he stayed to long. He could always re order it.
"I can get back, so I dont know what happened." He felt strangely uncomfortable talking about it. Like he had run away from home for some silly reason. It didn't help that he wasn't good with explaining things. His head worked to fast for his lips.

| Carmen followed Noah over to the table and sat down across from him. He didn't seem like a person of many words. But that was fine. The teenager probably could speak enough for the both of them on a good day. It also made pauses feel less awkward.
His eyes drifted down to Noah's hands when he cracked his knuckles. The sound was what caught his attention, and he just sort of kept his eyes on them as he listened. Wandered off...How do you just wander away from a world? It wasn't really his place to question the man's answer, nor did he really care. Carmen nodded and looked back up at Noah's face.
“Ahh I see... I was stupid and took off after an absent parent.”
He furrowed his brows. Can't get back? How was that even possible? Or not possible. The teenager couldn't think of anything that could make one unable to go somewhere...Though, Benny mentioned something about it being even more impossible to get out of the maze.. What with the darkness and all. Could it go both ways? He let out a small sigh.
“That's strange...Hopefully everyone is alright....”
His eyes flicked from Noah's face down to his own cup. Looking somewhat disappointed. Even if home was still out of reach, he was still in a much better place than before. And he wasn't the only person from that world wandering about. He now met this guy...This guy... Oh maker, he didn't even catch his name. Or give out his own. That was so terribly improper. Tch, what part of him was even close to proper at this point. Carmen turned his attention back on Noah.
“I'm Carmen, by the way.”
He said, in a more content tone of voice than earlier. He would've held out his hand, but the centipede illusion risk was too high. The teenager may have been from halloween town, but he didn't enjoy tricks very much. At least, being on the receiving end of them.

| Nodding Noah gets something akin to a distant look in his eye's. He wasn't sure if his parents where still alive, it was likely they died long ago. They couldn't have gotten trapped out of Halloween town like he did.... could they have? From the information that he had started to gather, though not many people went there anymore if hadn't been closed off until right after he left. If they where alive then they abandoned him, and that wasn't something that Noah liked to think about.
Noah taps the side of the mug, a centipede crawling out from his sleeve and wrapping itself around his thumb. Looking over to one of the few customers left, there where only three, and one kept looking up at Noah. Aiming carefully Noah flicks the Centipede off his thumb at the man. He looks up just in time and freaks out.
A wide smile breaks out across Noah's face, and a small chuckle escapes his lips. Small but it had the tone of a cackle, and the shiver that goes down the other two remaining patrons makes Noah want to burst out. But he holds it in. The scare was to just help clear his mind, he wasn't trying to get himself kicked out.
"Noah" he says to Carmen. His focus goes back to Carmen, he seemed like he had been through quite a lot. Of course this is assuming that he was really born in Halloween Town. He thinks this because anyone that is born in Halloween town just naturally isnt afraid of bugs. Sure we scare, we are afraid of things. But never really bugs, so it takes some real trama to get one of us to freak at the sight.
He did seem to have something over Noah, the willingness to adapt. But he had the feeling that part of that was because, at least to him, he had been away from home longer then Noah had. Noah still stuck to his roots hard, and he never planned to give an inch. But Carmen seemed different, weather that is good or bad is a matter of option.
Noah cracks his right first finger sharply the way he always does and tilts his head slightly. His mind a bit of a whir. "Got a place to stay?" Of course he meant more permanently but of course he was sure that would get across to Carmen. Would it? Eh it didn't matter if it didn't. He had had a hard time finding somewhere to stay for long periods of time until recently, of course he had Vin to help him. Does Carmen have someone like that?

| The teenager was adjusting pretty quickly to Noah's tricks. However, the other people in the small shop freaking out about said centipedes were a different story. Not only was Carmen not accustomed to hearing people get so bent out of shape over something. It had him worried that they might get kicked out at this rate. He really liked his drink, and this store, so he was hoping he could come back at some point.
Just how pleased Noah was with it all was kind of amusing though. It'd been ages since Carmen had anything to do with someone who was as into scaring as this guy seemed. Chris came close, but not quite. He was never in the scaring scene personally. He just did what he had to to prove himself.
It also didn't help that his illusions were anything but simple. They took time and effort. To do as well as reverse. A lot more than Noah's centipede scares. Carmen could change his physical form dramatically. But again, it was a pain. Maybe if he practiced he'd get better at it. It would take less effort. But at the same time, he was scared to practice it.
The teen's former companion had decided once, that he was going to see if it truly was an illusion. To see if there were really metal parts, gears, wires and oil beneath Carmen's skin. The scars down his back were proof of that. Every time he'd try to use said illusion after that, Benny decided he should remind him that he's really just a bag of flesh and blood. A weak kid. He literally scared the scare out of him.
Maybe... If I ever see Chris again...I'll get back into scaring. Like actually get into it... He thought of it as a way to try and fix their busted relationship. Get that bond they used to have going again. He smiled before finishing off his drink.
Noah... He repeated his name in his head. Making sure he'd remember it. No doubt Carmen wanted to hang out with this guy more often. They grew up in the same place, they seemed to have more in common than the teen had with Dax.
As if on cue Noah asked him if he had a place to stay. From the sound of it he meant more permanently. The teenager wasn't sure if his situation with Daxior was going to be permanent. The nobody seemed to think so but Carmen himself wasn't sure.
"Uhmm."
Dax was a friend. But there was something else going on with him. In that building. Carmen could feel it, but he ignored it most of the time... But just how much longer could he do so? What if whatever was being hidden from him was something unforgivable. He couldn't ever be sure.
“For the most part... I'm staying with this guy I met at the fair... He lives in what feels like a castle...It's weird, and bland. But it works.”
Carmen shrugged. It sounded weirder out loud then he had imagined it would. Though a lot of things did lately.
