Personality |
*I've got it all together* Collected, intelligent, cold. Sarcastic. not okay with anything in their screwed up lives: half fighting it, half addicted to it. the thrill of pulling off a heist, of finishing a job (of getting the better of someone) is like a drug. Pandora drowns her unhappiness in the addiction: it both overpowers her shame and deadens the feeling. Pandora maintains a very controlled, fearless, and confident attitude or persona. She's almost mouthy -keeping to sarcasm and sly jabs- but never goes too far. Patient as a spider in its' web. Calculating: she will do whatever it takes to reach her goals and care for her brother. Pandora is willing to put off temporary satisfaction or comfort to reach a long-term goal. Pollux is unstable: she knows she has to be the one who has it all together. *survivor* Pandora is resourceful and self-reliant. Inventive. Capable. Can think on her feet and doesn't wait around forever to make decisions: sometimes any choice is better than standing still. Good situational awareness. Observant. She knows how to de-escalate bad situations, keep her head down, or just get the heck out of there. She's tired of being afraid. Of losing control. So Pandora is making herself someone to be feared instead. *it's not all bad* Seems unfeeling and blunt. Few people can claim Pandora's love but if you do, you've gained her unshakable loyalty. She shows affection through action: endearments or simple gestures like hugs are very rare. Sticking up for her brother, no matter the cost, is just a given. Pandora would do the same for anyone she cared about, but she doesn't give love easily. She doesn't like to be bound to anyone emotionally: too easy to get hurt or used. It's Pollux and Pandora against the world. *idiosyncrasies* Likes high places: climbs up onto the trapeze platform on breaks. trusts her instincts when it comes to people and places. doesn't like to be separated from pollux. likes quiet, open, green places like meadows. likes it when she can't be seen. likes the country and small towns better than cities. doesn't trust people in general. they're not all bad, but, those nice faces in the crowd are like something seen beyond a wall of glass. What are the ignorant and the apathetic doing to help Pollux and Pandora? Or even stop the crimes? Nothing. She knows there are genuinely good people out there... but also that people can be monsters. Better not to trust. *blood* pollux gives his sister physical protection and is careful to look after her needs: Pandora is his emotional support, and protects her brother in a more preventative way. Watches out for him, and feels the weight of his reliance on her. To compensate for pollux's protective nature, she's learned to defuse and avoid many bad situations in the first place. That way, Pollux doesn't have to get hurt. Pandora used to cry for her parents at night. Not as much now. She drew pictures of them, and keeps them in a round locket with an eye design on it. Pollux is her only friend: while she could function without him and doesn't have the same kind of dependence on her twin that Pollux does, she still needs him. He's the one person she really trusts, and the only person she opens up to. She adjusts to his states of mind: she opens up emotionally with normal pollux, allowing herself to be more relaxed and "happy" than usual. Flexible and patient with apathetic pollux, letting her more cold side show alongside his. *in the spotlight* Pandora is a very talented mage and performer: she would have enjoyed this, under a different ringmaster. as it is, performing is both a horror and an escape. In the spotlight, during the show, Pandora loses herself in the act, in the routine. For that time, she is almost happy. It keeps performing bearable: that and the fact that pollux loves it. |
History |
Pandora's life wasn't always bitter. She and her twin were born to loving parents. A normal, happy home. Then, when she and Pollux were seven, a pandemic swept across their home world: her parents died of the illness. Off to the orphanage. Food like mashed up cardboard, burned at the edges. Hard knocks, put-downs and rules you can't figure out. Pollux takes another beating, keeping the bullies away. Keep your head down. Pandora's already quiet nature turned to unnatural reserve. She withdrew, hiding her feelings and weaknesses, and learned how to keep cruelty at bay with words that were cunning, cruel, or submissive. Whatever was needed. She wasn't the only one who began to change. Pandora noticed a change in Pollux that bothered her: two months in, he became paranoid, strangely apathetic and oblivious to pain. She cried, biting down on her pillow at night. After six months in that hole, the twins had had enough. Pollux planned an escape: the two of them carried it off without getting caught. Life didn't get any easier. They went from barren rooms to gutters and alcoves. Bad food to scraps, or no food at all. Pollux continued to change: he was getting more and more unstable, but Pandora stopped crying. Someone had to keep things together. Pollux needed her to keep herself together. The twins' were desperate when the Ringmaster found them on the street. He offered them a place to live, something to eat. In exchange for work, of course. What could they do but accept? The Ringmaster trained them in magical skills, teaching them routines and stories. Pandora worked hard. Performing came naturally to her, and she was a talented mage. None of that seemed to matter, though. The show could be perfect, and the Ringmaster would still scream at her when she got offstage. Pollux tried to protect her, shifting the focus of their masters' rage to himself. Stupid, stupid boy. Pandora worried about him constantly, and tried to keep him safe, to keep him as close to happiness as she could. It didn't take long for the Ringmaster to send them on their first "job". Stealing from the audience. Get more next time, little idiots. Then came graduation: more complex jobs, off-site. Pollux and Pandora worked well together. Grimlock. The twin thieves. Pandora hated it. Every minute of it. Then, time wound on and she slowly began to enjoy it as well: the mental and physical challenge of pulling off a heist, the thrill of success. Six years. They've spent six years under the Ringmaster: any sweetness in her nature wore away long ago. Pandora has become cold and distant from everyone except her brother, the only person she really cares about. |
