Appearance |
Like image. Thin and wiry. Quick, agile, and good at climbing and getting into places that are hard to reach. Decard is very pale, with dark circles under his eyes. Always cold. Usually wears a scarf he made from a strip of an old cloak, and gloves. Though Decard is over a century old, his body and appearance are those of someone their early twenties (his approximate age at the time of his imprisonment). |
Personality |
Eidolon: Decard can see and talk to ghosts and spirits. Able to effect the spirit world as if it were tangible and solid. Often it looks like he's talking to himself - even though he does mutter to himself often, chances are he's probably talking to a ghost. Half-light: Sees things in a weird, twisted way. (like a tim burton film). it effects the way he walks and moves: while much of what he sees really exists, he sees it in a twisted fairy-tail fashion. so a door will be in its' proper place, but in decard's eyes all its' edges are slanted. a tree will be in the proper place, but he'll duck to avoid the thick hanging mosses that aren't really there. Sees patterns in the sky and on walls, more vibrant colors and strange mixes between day and night. this isn't something he can help or control. people take on an appearance which reflects his impression of them, or just some random physical traits (such as different eye colors, skeletal appearances, ect.) Keep Your Head Down: Doesn't expect help or sympathy from others. Has seen enough bleeding, battered ghosts and heard enough tradgic stories to know just what people are capable of: his view of humanity is rather grim. Sometimes easy to take advantage of. Will stand up for others: has difficulty standing up for himself. Capable of fierce anger triggered by the pain of others, terror, or great physical or emotional harm to himself. Cold, almost cruel: his anger doesn't manifest in shouting or uncontrollable behavior - on the contrary, he becomes deathly calm and calculating, though his reactions can be unnerving in their intensity. Take a Look in the Mirror...: Decard is quiet and closed-off. Withdrawn. Usually aware of his surroundings, but he sometimes retreats into his own thoughts and often seems distracted or unengaged. Fearful. A follower rather than a leader when he's in a group, though taking initiative and making his own decisions are no problem for Decard. Willing to consider things that seem impossible or improbable to most people. He's not illogical, just open to more possibilities. Ironically, Decard generally doesn't fear ghosts and spirits (at least, not in the paralyzing way most people do). When fighting an evil spirit, he's the one who will be calm and focused while everyone else panics. Willing to hear people out, give them a chance. But that doesn't mean he isn't disgusted by people's crimes. Tries to do what he thinks is right (usually with fear and trembling). Deeply compassionate. Afraid of being thought of as crazy (even though he expects that). |
History |
Decard grew up a scrawny, wide-eyed child. From the start he reacted to things that no one else could see. Pointed out constellations in the middle of the day. Hid when there was nothing to hide from. Cried when he was left alone in the dark. Time wound on. Decards' father, a blacksmith and armorer, scoffed at his son, saying he needed to toughen up. But the boy remained distant and frightened, often going without sleep and nodding off in the middle of his work. What no one knew, was that Decard could see ghosts. First, he tried to ignore them. Then he tried talking to them, and found that they would respond. This seemed to surprise them as much as it did the boy himself: from that point on, ghosts seemed to seek him out, follow him, cry and talk to him. Decard withdrew deeper and deeper from the world around him, drifting off into his own world, shutting everyone out. Until he met Alice. One night, after his ninth birthday, a ghost of a little girl about his age appeared in the moonlight. Not to wail, or grab at him. Just to talk. Alice. The Girl in the White Dress. Terrified, Decard closed his eyes, curled up, whispered to himself. Then, her hand slipped into his. All she wanted, Alice explained, was to wish him "happy birthday." Two lonely children, one living and one dead, sat up talking long throughout the night. From that moment on, Decard was able to live with his ability to see ghosts, finally understanding that many of the spirits he saw came to him looking for help. Not every spirit or ghost had good intentions. More than once, Decard stopped a malicious haunting. One glacial December morning, Decard was visited by five bleeding ghosts. They exposed a High Nobles' crimes: they were five people he had unjustly put to death. Decard carried on a private investigation, guided by the five ghosts, and uncovered damning evidence against the noble. But Decard wasn't cautious enough. He was caught. Put on "trial". Convicted of some trumped up charge. The Noble shipped him off to a different world, a prison world. Decard has been there ever since. |
